There is a very extensive range of open-source software (OSS) which is available for the GNU/Linux operating system, all freely distributable.
If you use Ubuntu Linux and have an internet connection you have free access to the enormous software repositories where you can easily download and install more free and OSS software.

It is worth noting that open-source software is not exclusive to the GNU/Linux OS, many OSS applications are designed work on other operating systems including Microsoft Windows (some exclusively).
